Ixora Pavetta
Botanical Name:
Ixora Pavetta
Scientific Classification:
Order: Gentianales
Family: Rubiaceae
Genus: Ixora
Common Name:
Ixora / Ixora Pavetta
Plant Description:
The Ixora Pavetta is a native plant of India. Legend has it that it was the Portuguese who loved this plant so much in Goa that they took it back home and to many of their former colonies. Westerners call the Ixora Pavetta Plant as West Indian Jasmine. This Plant is seen mostly in the states of Maharashtra and Goa. The plant is grown for decorative purposes in gardens, parks, green road circles, entrances of zoos, forests etc.
The Ixora Pavetta Plant can be easily spotted. They have big leaves and its flowers bloom in a bunch. From far, the flowers look like African Marigolds. However, due to the distinguishing features of a Marigold foliage and an Ixora Pavetta foliage one can spot these plants very easily. Furthermore, from a near perspective, each flower of Ixora Pavetta looks orange star-shaped.
Ixora Pavetta's are good plants to grow especially if you are looking to cover up a large part of your garden. They bloom throughout the year. Maintenance is almost nil, although they do need regular watering. The best part of this plant is that you don't need to change the mud even if it looks of poor quality.
It is important to trim an Ixora Pavetta Plant. This will help the Plant in reproducing flowers quickly. In addition to this, it becomes imperative to trim the Plant especially when growing it on a flower pot kept on a window grill. The above image displays so.
Ixora Pavetta's bloom throughout the year. The best time to expect an abundant bloom is during the months from March to June. Each bunch of flowers can last for little over a month. The flowers give a pleasant and sweet-scented smell.
Due to the above arguments, the Ixora Pavetta Plant is starting to move from a popular forest plant to a garden plant.
